A study in right brain rebellion
Winter in May
Saturday, May 26, 2012
Can you believe this? Snow in late May! It turns out that my friends ended up having a White Wedding after all. The snowflakes started falling yesterday afternoon and throughout the day, blanketing the ground in white, if not temporarily. By nightfall, the snow had melted but not before we were able to get some good photo ops.
Tahoe has been gorgeous, as I previously mentioned, even with the snow. Teetering around in heels in snow and in a short summer dress isn't my first choice of activities but I actually came prepared with a heavy coat, unlike some of the other ladies. Now if I only remembered my snow boots...

Like a ping pong ball
Thursday, May 24, 2012
So I'm back to the West Coast - Lake Tahoe for the wedding long weekend. My body is officially messed up with all of the different time zones that I've been in, particularly when it comes to eating and sleeping schedules.
The lake is absolutely gorgeous and the area is beautiful, if not a little chilly. I'll make sure and snap lots of pics with my new camera, particularly if all of the sunsets look like this.

Stealing from the boys
Tuesday, May 22, 2012
I'm not ashamed to admit that I regularly shop for and wear men's clothing. There has always been something appealing to me about men's fashion. I think it's less intimidating than women's fashion and more consistent and I would more than gladly rock more of the trends and pieces, if only they came in my size. However, for the below $9 men's tanks from Target, I was willing to go with pieces that run a slightly large. I scooped them up in a small anyway, despite the fact that they show a little side bra. I'll just rock some fun coloured undies but what do you think about potentially altering them? I think the solid coloured tank could transition to a fun cut off.
I also totally buy men's undershirts and A-frame tanks to wear casually. Are there any men's clothes that you purchase for yourself or steal from the boys in your life?

Your mission, if you choose to accept it
Monday, May 21, 2012
Is to find something wrong with this home. This is actually a bit absurd to me; I can't believe that a house like this exists in Houston, particularly with the proliferation of grand old Louisiana style homes in the area. This mission-style home reminds me almost of a castle, particularly the great room. And what a great room it is, with those heavy rafters and chandeliers dripping from the ceiling. There's also something really funky about having windows inside a home but I think for me, it just adds to the grandeur. That and the indoor Romeo and Juliet balcony.
I'll look for something more budget-friendly this week but I couldn't resist sharing this one. Happy Monday!

Recruiting trips
Thursday, May 17, 2012
I haven't so much gone into the reason for all my travels recently on my blog but all the flying around is for the nonprofit venture with which I'm involved. We have been making the rounds to cities in the US that have a strong and vibrant financial center to recruit finance types for our volunteer team. My co-founder has a goal of doubling our volunteer team every quarter, and as we grow, it is obviously becoming more challenging. We are both getting to the point where our personal networks are getting tapped out. After this trip to NYC, we will assess whether or not running around is an effective method or if we should try another approach.
It's difficult to make a personal connection over a two hour meeting and I've realized that I can only reach out and have a deep conversation with a few individuals per session. I feel like I need to put myself in one of those Calvin and Hobbes duplicators. Luckily, my co-founder has a very dynamic and charismatic personality, which allows me to thrive in the quieter and more personable moments. I feel pretty lucky to have a unique working relationship like ours.

Tomorrow I'll be running around the City like a chicken with its head cut off but tonight, I'll let the light of NYC bathe me in its sweet glow and rest easy.
